The roof / ceiling
The house is built to a traditional Kandyan style and the high open roof is very much a feature of this traditional design. The roof tiles rest on beams which fan out from the centre of the house and which are clearly visible from both floors. This creates a light and airy atmosphere but also means that the house can be cooler in the evenings which is why blankets are provided.
